I just finished painting the San Diego Temple and I must say I think I like the pencil sketch better than the painting. It's hard to include fine details when painting. I think it'll look better once I put the matting on it and fram it.
When you paint on canvas sometimes it shrinks with the paint, so you have to stretch it by stapling it to a frame. It's not always necessary but it's really your choice. I've put some of my paintings in regular glass frames and it looks fine.
